Triple Threat

BY: Jordan Pasalaqua

Gabby Blackford has been on the Madison Girls Volleyball team for the past three years and she is now going into her senior year of High School. She is the right side hitter for the team and she is a good leader on and off the court.

On Wednesday August 23rd the girls faced the Edgewood Warriors and defeated them in three games to one. For that game Gabby had three hard kills to put Madison in the lead. For Gabby’s Senior year she wants to make it memorable. She wants to make it fun with all of her volleyball, gymnastics, and softball teammates. During Gabby’s Junior year of High School she was the State champion for gymnastics for vault.

That year, the girls softball team won Districts against Chardon High School and went to Regional. Gabby had also lead the Madison softball team with four home runs. She is in the National Honors Society and Spanish Club. Her academics are outstanding, having all A’s during high school making her weighted GPA a 4.4, and now goes to Lake Erie College for her senior year where she takes Government, Stats, Sociology, and Spanish.

Gabby’s High School goals are to repeat state title for Gymnastics and break her record for vault. She also wants to win at regionals with the Madison Softball team and make it to States. Gabby’s future plans are to go to college, however she has not decided if she wants to go to Cleveland State University, Ohio University, Mount Union, or John Carroll. She plans to pursue a professional career in medicine.

Gaby loves to watch the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Indians, and the Big 10 Gymnastics. Her favorite movie to watch is Pearl Harbor, and on top of that, she is obsessed with her Labradoodle puppy Maverick as seen in the picture below.

Crossing Berkshire

BY: Toni Burr

The  Madison Cross Country team of 2017 is going to Berkshire for a meet on Saturday, August, 26 2017 with their coach, Coach Jeremy Verdi. This is the first time the Cross Country team is going to Berkshire to compete. This meet is also the Cross Country's team first official meet of the season of 2017.

The key to victory for this meet is training your top seven runners to run as far and close to each other as possible so they can all get a very close score. The team expects to come out as second or third because they have been working very hard for this meet. The fans of Madison Cross Country think the team will do great at their first meet to Berkshire and believe they will win.

One of the team's leaders, Nick Amos, Senior, is the top Varsity runner on the team. Others on the team model themselves after him. Nick got 1st place in his team at "War on the Shore". Owen Hennessey, Junior, is also a team leader. Owen is a very fast and steady runner on his team. His season has gone great this year, he got first at the lake farm park meet. Although he did not do as good at "War on the Shore", coming in third place, he expects to bounce back for the meet this Saturday at Berkshire. Owen also focuses heavily on school, his choir programs, and band. He has gotten a 94% on his AP History test, making it the highest in his class.

August 25th

BY: Isabel Gnagy

August 25th, at 7 pm, the very first home game of the 2017 football season for the Madison High School Blue Streaks takes place. The game is against the Geneva Eagles. The teams have a history with one another and the only term that can describe it is “bad blood” as said by tight end, Cameron Luster. Last year the Geneva Eagles beat Madison with a close game, 16-15.

This year, we have Coach Willis for the Madison Blue Streaks and Coach Sorber for the Geneva Eagles. This year, all the Blue Streak players feel that they will win this first home game against Geneva.

Even Michael Woody, a JV running back, says “We’ve put in our grind for awhile and compared to us, they aren’t ready”. The boys have been working hard since this January to become prepared for the 2017 season. All 36 players of the varsity lineup are pumped and ready to defeat Geneva. This Friday, we will  strike down those Eagles from their ranks.

When asked how he thinks the season will go, Principal Fisher replied, “10 and 0”. The whole team, coaches, student body, and staff believe that this season will be one of the best yet. Blue and white against red and grey. Last year Madison’s record was officially 5-5-0. This year we’re trying for 10-0-0.

The energy in the air shows that Madison is hopeful to win not only this upcoming game against the eagles but also all games to come this season. This all seems possibly seeing that Geneva’s score was 2-8-0. The 2017 season seems to be much more possible with all the players on the team. Their spirit and focus is hair raising and for our opponents, horrifying. With the band and the student body’s encouragement the Blue Streaks can lead the way to a big win this Friday, August 25th at 7 pm.

Jack's Journey Through the Junior year

BY: Jack Tagliamonte

Welcome to Jack's Journey Through the Junior Year, my first year of yearbook and they already trust me enough to make semi humorous and sparsely serious short articles for the blog. I'm sure this will be gone the second that I say anything stupid, but I'll take my chances and try to have some fun along the way.

Most people miss summer and wish we could just sleep in till noon everyday but now, we're forced to wake up at too early o'clock and stumble into our favorite home away from home, Madison High School. When I walked into Mr. Butler's class right after lunch B I didn't really expect to be given a position where I had all of this responsibility but I'm kinda digging it, I was gonna write about how I slept the night before and just be a filler for the actual interesting things that everyone else is writing about but Adrianna, the blog editor, also the biggest killjoy alive, had to kill my vibe and actually make make me do an interesting article.

But I'm not about to do that so I'm just gonna write about myself and what I plan on doing. I'm just gonna say I'm here to stay as long as I don't like... accidentally impale myself with my sword (oh yeah I have a sword) or like... die in a horrible accident involving an elephant and a cheese grater. I'm supposed to say I have some fun things to talk about and also some kinda serious stuff, I'm not a serious person so I'm gonna try to avoid it as much as possible, but of course our favorite blonde-headed, evil eyed editor will force me to do something at some point. There isn't really much to talk about but I have a 300 word quota so I'm kinda at a brain fart moment, hopefully someone gives me a topic to talk about at some point.

Taking on the Hawks

BY: Adrianna Hanzak

About sixteen million thunderstorms hit the US every year. One of the eighteen games the Lady Blue Streaks Soccer Team played in the 2016-2017 school year was flooded with the effects of the unwelcomed storm that stretched the game into delays, making it a long dreadful fight to the end, resulting in a heart wrenching 2-1 loss.
Wednesday, August 22 the Lady Blue Streaks took on their vanquisher in hostile territory, the Hawken Hawks in their own nest. With only one known threat under their wing, the Hawks pushed to keep their undefeated record against our Lady Streaks sacred. With the knowledge of history on the line, Madison took the field reluctant to see what their opponents had in store, but slowly regained composure and shut down their hopes.

The Hawks slowly became discouraged and began to hit hard, picking up the aggression forcing Madison to pick up the intensity. With thirteen minutes left in the half, Sophomore Mykayla Askew broke the ice with a free kick shot that reset the game at half field and Madison held out the Hawks until the half time whistle.
With a half time talk under their belts, the Streaks took the field again, with newfound hope, and brought through yet another goal delivered by Askew. With the thought of losing their undefeated record, the Hawks fought back with even more aggression, bringing the foul rate up. The aggression continued to build as the time ticked by, and the game took a screeching halt when the Hawks slide tackled Abby Piert on her run down the sideline, landing Piert in a collar for two weeks until she sees a specialist.

With a family member injured, the Lady Blue Streaks held their own and took down the Hawks nest, taking the 2-0 win, making it the first win in Madison Lady Blue Streak Soccer history against Hawken. Out of the sixteen million thunderstorms in the US, Wednesday, August 22, the Lady Streaks were the storm that shook the Hawks nest.
