Cooking Fever

To start off the week the cooking classes enjoyed an episode of Master Chef which they have been slowly watching throughout the year. Tuesday they prepped for the pizza’s they’d be making on Wednesday. Wednesday the classes didn’t work in their normal groups. Instead every individual student made their own personal pizza. You got to choose to have up to two topping on your pizza and they turned out amazing.

On Thursday Mrs.Clark helped the students get ready and prep for the cinnamon rolls they would be making on Friday. Also on Thursday the class did some book work and other little things. To end the weak the students got back into their groups to make delicious cinnamon rolls.

Cinnamon rolls recipe:

For the dough…
  • 1 cup of warm milk (about 115 degrees F)
  • 2 ½ teaspoons of instant dry yeast (i like red star platinum baking yeast)
  • 2 large eggs at room temperature
  • ⅓ cup melted butter
  • 4 ½ cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
For the filling…
  • ½ cup butter almost melted
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • ½ cup heavy cream (for pouring over the risen rolls)
For the frosting…
  • 6 ounces of cream cheese (softened)
  • ⅓ cup of butter (softened)
  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • ½ tablespoon of maple extract (or vanilla)

The student really enjoyed having a delicious treat to snack on for their Friday and would love to make more desserts in the future.
