As this year’s Lift-A-Thon quickly approaches, I got to talk to a few of the 62 boys that are participating in the events. The boys will be competing in three different categories: squat, clean, and bench.
Those three categories are then divided by power and speed. They are divided into 10 teams, which will be announced the day of the Lift-A-Thon. Most of the guys have set goals for themselves that they are hoping to surpass at the event.
I got to speak with a few of the boys that are participating in the event, the first being junior Aidan Thompson. Aidan made it onto the power squat board last year at 430 pounds. He’s not done though, this year he is hoping to make his way onto more of the boards. He is excited, but it’s a bittersweet feeling. After junior year the football players don’t participate in Lift-A-Thon anymore. Aidan said, “We have lots of strong guys this year and we’re all hoping to take up some spots on the boards and all put in our best work”.
I also got to talk to another junior, Alex Dragas. Alex has some high goals for the event and is excited for the team bonding experience. His mindset going into the Lift-A-Thon is “Hard work equals success”. Sophomore Truman Myers is amped up for his second LIft-A-Thon. “I would like to dedicate all of his hard work to my good pal, Conor O’Bryan”. Lift-A-Thon is this Friday, March 13th at 5:30 pm. Admission is free and all are welcome to come out and support.
