Back-to-Back

By: Sydney Guyer

On Saturday, February 2nd the Varsity Girls Basketball team had their Senior Night against the Willoughby South Rebels. The Lady Blue streaks honored three seniors (Brannigan Cramb, Zara Fedele, and Jess Schafer) who have been playing with each other for years where they formed an unbreakable bond with each other.

The two teams previously faced off last month at South in an intense game that unfortunately added another loss to the Lady Blue Streaks record. While the previous game hadn't ended the way the girls wanted it to, they fought back on their senior night looking for revenge. The girls came out firing in the first quarter and continued to carry that same fire throughout the game. The Lady Blue streaks didn't back down against the Rebels and sealed their win with a final score of 65-44.

This past Wednesday, February 6th the Lady Blue streaks had another game against the Riverside Beavers and were looking to continue their winning streak. The Blue streaks previously beat the Beavers at home with a score of 53-47. Riverside honored their seniors before the game for Senior Night and it helped fuel them to put up a fight against the Blue streaks.

During the duration of the game, the Beavers and Blue streaks had multiple lead changes but neither of them could hold it for a very long time. The game ended up in a tie at the end of regulation and forced the Blue streaks to head into overtime.

The Blue streaks started overtime with a scoring run and it looked like they were going to win it all, but then the Beavers fought back and forced the game into a double overtime. Throughout overtime the teams fought back and forth to try and seal the win, but Freshman, Riley Montagner helped push the Blue streaks to victory with her very clutch free throws to beat the Beavers 47-46.

The Lady Blue streaks moved to 8-11 this week with three more games left in the regular season. They were able to earn the seventh seed for the tournament and host Riverside at home on February 16th at 1pm.
