A Beautiful Day For a Run

On Saturday September 14th, 2019 the Madison Boys Cross Country team ran at Forest Hills Park in Cleveland,  hosted by Villa Angela St. Joseph. The race started off with sophomore Dimitri Dragas,  who took the lead of the boys for the first mile. Around a mile and a half in, there was a huge hill, so described as “taller than the Madison High School building”, that came into play as the boys were running.

While descending the hill, senior Brandon Rockwood then took the lead of the boys for quite a bit of the race. As they neared the finish line, junior, Dillon Miller took the lead and finished first, with a time of 18 minutes and 21 seconds, which was 1 minute and 36 seconds better than last year. Rockwood explained how he felt good going into the race because he was prepared for the hill and the miles after it. However, he says he cannot speak for how the team felt because a good handful of them were running the course for the first time.

The biggest downfall for the team at this meet was the hill because it’s described as “the worst hill of the year,” and the boy’s legs usually get sore for the rest of the course once they run up it. Most of the boys feel pretty good about their next meet this coming Saturday September 21st,  at the Cuyahoga Community College Western Campus. It’s a flat course and this next meet rarely changes elevation throughout the entire course. The boys are excited and well prepared to see how they do as a team this coming Saturday because of all the hard work they have put in during practice.
